“ Checked out the newly rebranded Shanghai Bun Dynasty (formerly Shanghai No. 1) in Cupertino, and they're serving up some serious Shanghai flavors. Here's what we ordered: Cucumber salad--super fresh, giving Din Tai Fung vibes. Meat & Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao--delicate, juicy, and definitely made in-house. Steamed cabbage + pork dumplings & pan-fried buns--both so good. Scallion pancake--crispy and flaky in all the right ways. Stir-fried garlic string beans--simple but packed with flavor. Shanghai rice cakes + scrambled egg shrimp fried rice--classic comfort food. Spicy pork wontons--delicious, but not super spicy. Crispy tofu--light and crispy, perfect to share. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were solid for the price. It got busier the longer we stayed, so plan ahead! Service could've been better, but I'd definitely come back for the food alone. the food took a while to get all of it but that's to be expected. ”

“ Great food! We got 4 dishes and rice. The braised pork belly came with tofu that was neatly designed/braided and the tenderness and flavor was amazing! The salt pepper fish was good and had some bell pepper veggies mixed in. We had both the pan fried and XLB soup dumplings, and probably the best soup we have had flavor wise inside! The pan fried ones had some burnt ones which were not very good. Our last dish was the fried milk which had a great flavor! Inside was very nice and clean, decent amount of seats. The service could have been better. We had to go out of our way to ask for things like water, check, to go boxes, since it's all a QR code ordering system and didn't have an option for those. Definitely will be back! ”

“ Pretty good/solid. Generally enjoyed the food. The hot sour soup could use more spiciness or pepper it wasn't really hot at all. The salted egg shrimp was also just ok. I recommend the xiao long bao, shen jian bao, and the beef wrap rolls. The crab roe meatball was also really good. The squirrel fish was tasty and def a signature dish. Wouldn't mind coming back if I was in the area. The Shanghai rice cakes were very tempting. ”

“ This definitely fulfilled our cravings. We came on a Sunday evening and were seated immediately since it wasn't super busy. Ordering was quick and easy through the QR code. Service was prompt. The interior decor gave off old Shanghai and it was relaxing. Food: * Spicy Pork Wontons: Broth was a bit bland. We did choose less oil so not sure if that had to do with seasoning. The wontons were soft and the pork filling was smaller than expected, but still packed with flavor. * Spicy Braised Beef Noodle Soup: We chose less oil for the soup and it tasted a little bland as well. The broth did have a spicy and numbing kick to it, but not too strong. Luckily, we made a soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil dipping mixture that added more flavor to the noodle soup and pork wontons. The noodles were the right consistency and I thoroughly enjoyed it. * Crab Roe Soup Dumplings: Soo yummy. Almost all of them did rip a bit as we tried to get them off the paper, but the juices weren't all lost. The filling + juices were packed with umami flavor from the crab. Definitely a favorite. * Braised Beef wrap with poached egg (not pictured): Another favorite of ours. The beef was moist and tender in a flavor bomb of a marinade. It was sweet and savory. The cucumbers gave a refreshing/crunchy texture and taste. We did order pan fried buns, but they didn't make it out. It was honestly a blessing since we were incredibly full already. Overall, everything we had was solid and would definitely come back! ”

“ Authentic Shanghai Cuisine It has recently been rebranded and now offers a variety of dishes. The service was friendly and fast. We tried several dishes, and my top favorites were the scallion oil noodles, basil-flavored eggplant, and Shanghai ham and vegetable fried rice. They also have a few large tables in the dining room, making it a great spot for gatherings with friends or family. Can't wait to go back and try more from the menu! ”

“ Service was a bit slow especially when there weren't as many people in the restaurant. Perhaps they were short staffed and still in grand opening phase. At least the staff were very kind and polite though. The crab XLB and salt and pepper fish were very delicious!! The soup dumplings were so juicy, skin was thin and still managed to hold the soup together. Scallop were interesting and fun to eat. Neat presentation but kinda oily. I enjoyed the pan fried buns. Duck needed a tad bit more soy sauce so we added some more. Wonton soup was so good especially with some of the fried rice. We added the chili oil to the scrambled egg shrimp rice which was great combo! I would come back for crab XLB and salt and pepper fish alone. Great pricing point and satisfied my cravings. ”

Located in the busy Tokyo Central shopping center, the restaurant can be hard to find and parking can be even harder, but I assure you it's worth it. * bean curd skin stuffed with pork meatball - a unique dish and very tasty, like little 'lion cub's heads' * pork soup dumpling - very juicy but they don't give you shredded ginger unless you ask. * tofu skin salad - good and refreshing * stewed pork belly & quail eggs - savory and very tender * rice cake with veggie and pork strips - FAVORITE dish! GET IT! * drunken chicken - all sold out, Bummer. Only dislike is you are required to order from a QR code menu. I am old school (or just plain old fogey) and prefer ordering from a waiter so I can ask questions and get recommendations. ”

“ Craving Chinese food? This place has pretty great options and portion sizes! The food is authentic, the prices are reasonable, and the service is decent! Like any other traditional Chinese restaurant, the restaurant was a little on the smaller side, but had plenty of seating and lots of round tables with lazy Susan's! My family and I really enjoyed the XLB, Steamed Scallops, and Braised Pork Belly with Quail eggs! Would I come here again, def! Especially since it's across the way from the Sanrio shop which we went right after dinner! lol ”
